![]() According to Christian Pramuk, product manager for the 123D apps, the goal was to build something that was super intuitive for new users, while having enough features to keep intermediate and advanced users interested. Like I said, we all do things differently and there isn't really a correct way, there are several correct ways. The 123D Timeline:123D (April 2011): Desktop software Autodesk's first foray into DIY 3-D design. This is what works best for me, see how if works for you. For other cut outs (like the 3mm holes for LEDs) I draw flat circles on top of the 3d parts and pull them down through the solid. I've installed and started up 123d design for the first time, and now I see all these weird pixels on the menu items and on the helptext etc. I've been watching some youtube tutorials and thought, 123d design might be a good tool to get startet. Most of it I start off with flat shapes such as circles and squares, draw it out, delete the cut out parts and then pull it up to make it a 3d solid. I'm just going to start with 3d modelling. I tackled each part on it's own, grouped it then moved on to the next and put all parts together as one. the base of it (the thick part with the fins), the centre part (circle with 3mm holes for LEDs and 3 spokes to attach to the base) and the top part of it (the rings with the blocks with the copper wire around them). Everyone works differently (something 15 years of professional CAD work has taught me, and something that has also caused me 15 years of stress, confusion and very often a lot of cursing around the office), just find what works best for you and stick with it, you'll get there.Īlso, last I checked the online version of 123d was better than the downloadable one, there are more tools available.įor further guidance, my ARC reactor was drawn up in 123D, the methods I used were.Įach section was drawn individually, i.e. It doesn't take too long to realise what each thing does and what the best way to tackle a design is. Add flat geometry on to 3d parts and extrude them, chamfer edges etc. without having to resort to the trackpad/pointer. I would prefer to be able to pan quickly using just keystrokes, i.e. I find no way to Pan without using the mouse pointer to select the Pan function from the menu on the right side of the window. Make some weird and wonderful shapes by trying out all of the tools to see what they do. In the first few tutorials, the narrator talks about and demonstrates the use of Panning and Cruising. ![]() Likewise any user of the app has the option to share their creations with the autodesk community via Autodesk's built-in sharing functionality. The best way to learn how to use 123d is by just playing around with it. The 3D models created by Catch can be used in a number of ways such as 3D printing.Ĭatch offers users the ability to view, comment on, rate, and download other users models. Finally after they model is created it is downloaded to the user's device for viewing and editing. Once all of the images are saved they are uploaded to autodesk servers so they can be stitched together and a 3D model can be made. Autodesk recommends taking between 30 and 40 pictures to create a well rounded model but when photographing larger subjects the user can take up to 70 pictures to give greater detail to the model. If the user is trying to create a 3D model of something with complex features they can take close up pictures on those areas to give better definition to the resulting model. For anyone out there having problems with 123d Design running slowly - the 123dx files continue to grow the more mods you make to your design.basically it is accumulating instructions. To create a 3D model in Catch the user should find a subject that can be easily photographed from many angles in good light. The program is available for Windows, an app exists in the play store for Android, app store for iOS, and Windows Phone store. Print the model on your own machine or with a service bureau. Create and edit a reality capture model with Catch. Generate construction documents with the LayOut feature. With the creation of an Autodesk account, users can also export their newly created models to further manipulate in popular 3D modeling software. Make your own creations with Design and Tinkercad. Catch can be used to create 3D models of people, places, and things. It does this by stitching together the images with common visual structures automatically, then asking the user to help connect points that could not be determined through software. Catch uses photogrammetry technology to create a 3D model out of multiple pictures taken by the user.
